Devotion to Family and Faith
Virginia Anderson Mosis—devoted mother to Dirk Malcolm and Ann Stanley, and wife to Dirk—dedicated her life to serving Jesus Christ. Her acts of service touched every area of her life, whether at home, in her children’s schools, within her local community, at church, or on the mission field abroad.
A Heart for People and Missions
Virginia deeply loved people of all ages, backgrounds, and economic circumstances. She welcomed Jesus into her heart as a child at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta and, as a teenager, embarked on her first mission trip along the Texas–Mexico border with her church choir.
International Mission Work
In the 1990s, while a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist in Marietta, Georgia, Virginia journeyed to China and Thailand, teaching English alongside long-term missionaries. Later, with First Baptist Boerne, she served on mission trips to Mexico, Uganda, Peru, Bangladesh, and Siberia, Russia.
Approach to Missions
Virginia never measured her devotion by the number of trips she took—she believed even one opportunity to witness for Jesus was significant. She approached each mission with prayer, often questioning what she, a mother, homemaker, and interior designer, could contribute alongside professionals such as doctors, administrators, teachers, and nurses. Yet, guided by faith and the support of leaders like Mike Mantooth, Chad Mason, Sandra Radtke, and Lisa Hilgemeier, God always provided what was needed—encouragement, lesson plans, and support.
Her Legacy
Virginia’s infectious smile, boundless positivity, and genuine love for others defined her presence. Although apprehensive before each journey, she always returned grateful, receiving more than she gave—all because of Jesus.
Every mission trip had special meaning for her, especially the relationships she built abroad and within her church. She cherished serving in Mexico alongside Annie and the teens, as well as the enduring friendships with Kristina, Marina, Tatyana, Anatoly, and Pastor Slava in Russia. One of her proudest moments was hearing Annie share her faith story before 250 Russian youth at a summer camp in 2015, with Kristina translating.
Virginia’s trip to Bangladesh with Lisa Hilgemeier deeply affected her perspective as she witnessed the lives of young women there. Her final mission journey was to Uganda in 2023, where she delighted in teaching alongside Sandra and ministering to the women.
Inspiration for Others
Virginia stands as an inspirational figure for anyone considering mission work. She lived fully present, loving, trusting God’s plan, and steadfast in her faith. When interviewed by Pastor Chad Mason for the “SO THAT!” podcast about her Uganda mission trip, Virginia concluded: “Put your toe in, try, and go. You do not know what God will do!”
May we, like Virginia, faithfully live our utmost for His highest. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10
