My name is Josh Sisam, and I’m a member here at First Baptist in Boerne and very proud to be so. You know, this church is our family. My folks go here, my kiddos go here. And so, church is our family. And so, when I interact with clients or other people in the community, it’s hard for me not to bring up the fact that I go to church. In fact, it’s something I’m glad to do.

With one of my clients specifically, he was in town from overseas. He lives overseas. And I told him about our church. The following Monday, he called and said, “Hey, I went to your church, and it is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.”  He explained a little bit about the churches in the country that he lives. And it’s, I don’t like the phrase post-Christian, but in that environment, the churches are very structured and very, I’d say dead, to be very blunt. And so, coming to First Baptist was an opportunity for him to see the Gospel preached. One of the things he said is, “Your pastor…he actually believes what he’s saying. You know, he actually believes it!” And just the way he described his experience here was just really fun.

You know, it’s not something where I overtly invited a client to church, but yeah, you try to live your faith. You try to be authentic in who you are. I think God works in fun ways and mysterious ways. And this is one where yes, I absolutely said yes to trying to live the gospel, to share the gospel. And behind the scenes, God was working in a way I didn’t even see.

I think God works in fun ways and mysterious ways. And this is one where yes, I absolutely said yes to trying to live the gospel, to share the gospel. And behind the scenes, God was working in a way I didn’t even see.

Sometimes even the small things we do, we don’t even realize the impact that they have. And I’m kind of humbled by this one just because, you know, I didn’t expect him to show up to church, and he did. And it wouldn’t have happened but for the fact that God was working in his life, and I got to be a small part of that.

I’ve always remembered, you know, my kids are always watching. But it’s not just my kids are always watching; other people are always watching. We try to serve as an example. Some people are a good example; some people are a bad example. But this is one where if you can live your faith publicly, it can have a public impact.

When God is working, He does it His way. It’s not the strength within, it’s the Holy Spirit working in us. And so, God’s not done with me for sure. But it’s just, I’m humbled to say that He’s working in me, and I get to see that occasionally in other people too.

My name is Josh, and I said, “Yes!”
