The largest wildfire in Texas history has burned more than a million acres, covering nearly 1,700 square miles and leaving many families homeless. God provides in times of need, though, and our FBC Boerne quilt group, the Sew Faithful Quilters, was ready to help with beautiful handmade quilts for the victims. Fifteen ladies meet weekly to sew threads of love into each quilt they produce. When the group heard about the fire, they immediately began to pray for the victims and how they would be able to help. Pastor Chad Mason, FBC Missions pastor, put Barbara Conley, the leader of the quilt group, in touch with the Texas Baptist Men’s (TBM) ministry, which has been working with fire victims in the Texas panhandle. The quilt group delivered 50 quilts to a chaplain of the TBM who is traveling to the Texas panhandle on Friday, March 8, and will be distributing the quilts, along with a Bible, to families. Some of the quilts are for babies, and larger ones for adults. No matter who receives the quilts, they will know that God hasn’t abandoned them and that FBC Boerne is praying for them. The TBM has a group of 15 men traveling to the panhandle, staying ten days to help victims.

Vickie Henslee received one of the quilts from First Baptist Church in Fritch and shared, “I lost my home of 45 years in the fire. Your quilt put a very bright spot in my day today!! It’s so beautiful and beautifully made!! Thank y’all so very much for what y’all do!”

Texas Baptist Men reports that the quilts are loved by those receiving them. One lady asked for a quilt for her Mother, who had lost her home. When asked if her mother would like to pick a quilt, she would bring her own. When the mother selected her quilt, this lady spoke with the chaplain and heard the gospel. Right then, she turned her life over to Jesus. His hand used the quilts to reach hungry hearts. We continue to pray for the safety of the Texas Baptist Men’s Ministry and their continued work. May our Great God use them in miraculous ways.
